Chuck’s Cafe

Typically I don’t really review take-out wings, but when I received a lot of requests to check out Chuck’s Cafe in Hamilton, I just couldn’t refuse. This place is tucked in a small strip mall right on Route 33, and as rumor has it, on Superbowl Sunday has a line out the door. Now, you don’t necessarily have to get these wings to go on the grounds that they have indoor seating, though I wouldn’t recommend it as I could feel the chair breaking underneath me while I waited.
The wings came in a Styrofoam container along side celery and blue cheese, and were doused in wing sauce. One other thing to mention was the variety of sizes you could purchase. I never heard of 14 wings before, but am glad I chose that over the 10 as these puppies were small. I ordered mine “Medium,” but I don’t think they really had a system. I just think they have one sauce and if you ask for mild, they say it’s mild. If you ask for hot, they say it’s hot… (now I’m joking of course… though there is always a little truth to every joke). They were handed to me piping hot, and I could smell the yummy goodness all the way back to the house. Needless to say, my mouth was watering and I couldn’t wait to dig in.
The meat was very tender and the flavors of the sauce were better than exceptional. I really enjoyed each and every one. The only downfall, besides the size of these guys, would be the stopwatch factor. From the moment you get them, their tenderness and moisture starts to deplete. If I ate the same wings within five minutes and then again at fifteen, I would be convinced that they weren’t the same batch. It seems that the longer you wait to eat them, the less impressive they become. However, the one thing that remained the same throughout it all was the flavor. No matter how the chicken tasted, or how dried out they became, the flavor in that sauce was so good that it held it all together for me.
Basically, I would say that if you are looking for some good wings in the Hamilton area, you should swing by Chuck’s. Just make sure you get a good quantity and plan to eat them right away.
